Maps

Maps are useful for planning and we all need plans. We should always plan to do good works and to serve and glorify God. However, you also have to accept that God may throw a curveball to help you grow spiritually and to become more like Christ. This isn’t always what we want in the short-term, but in the long-term it is totally worth it. Think of Job and how he was tested. His life was destroyed on earth for a time, but he stayed faithful and never cursed God. In the end, God restored everything he lost, with interest. Always remember to plan with the end in mind — eternity with God.

How do we get there? With a map — and the only map for a moral life, for serving God, and for salvation that we need is the Bible. It is popular now to just be ‘spiritual’ and only have a vague notion of God. This usually goes along with living a life that is not bound to any notions of morality or serving God. Those same people like the blame God when things go wrong. There are no guarantees on earth, Jesus made that clear, but if you aren’t following the map (the Bible) then there is a really, really good chance that all kinds of things will go wrong for you. Even if your choice to not follow the map doesn’t catch up with you on earth, it will in eternity.

The Bible gave us instructions on how to be saved – Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross allows us to be forgiven if we accept it. Start with repenting and getting baptized for what you know to be sin – then live a faithful life, always studying God’s word. The more you study, the more you will get out of it. Find a church that follows the Bible.
